The order ran, but the model did not change — gull system handbook

Troubleshooting: an order has status Done but the model or document is unchanged — an empty input, a dimension in another configuration, a material the CAD refused, a configuration not in the model.

The order ran, but the model did not change

Status Done and the part the same as before. The CAD does not report most mistakes, so the cause is almost always what a rule sent — or did not send.

  1. Open Log → Orders and the order's detail. The Rules column says how many rules passed. Expand them and look for returned nothing and Evaluated, but did not reach the CAD.
  2. A rule returned nothing on a dimension, count or suppression. The input it reads arrived empty: a form field without a value and without a default, or an Excel column without wiring. Check Wire sheet columns to inputs and the defaults in step 2.
  3. The dimension was written, but the part did not rebuild. The dimension has a value in one configuration only and the assembly uses another — see A driven dimension does not change: set it for all configurations.
  4. The material or colour did not change and the Log reports nothing. The CAD never reports a material assignment as an error. The material must be an item from the Materials list picked from the database, not a typed name; check that the item exists on this computer (a different install language, a custom database). Verify by the part's mass — see Silent mistakes with materials.
  5. The suppression did not change. The rule returned text not in the table (TRUE / FALSE / U / S / a number). An empty value means "leave as is". In Code mode the convention is the opposite of formulas.
  6. Everything passed, but the open model looks old. The order wrote into the file at the stored path. If you have another copy open in SOLIDWORKS, switch to it; check Properties → CAD model.
