A choice the customer can skip — gull system handbook
Tip: an empty default value on an input, so that an empty or hidden field leaves the part unchanged.
A choice the customer can skip
An empty or hidden field will leave the part unchanged.
Introduction
When an order does not bring an input, its default value is used. This also applies to a field hidden by a rule, because a hidden field sends its default value. An optional choice therefore needs an empty default value.
Steps
- Find the input. Open the Define inputs step and select the input, for example Colour.
- Delete the default value. While it is filled in, an empty field in the form means that value, not "no colour". The form field's default value is the same value and changes with it.
- Test an order with the field empty. The Log should report that the rule returned nothing, and the part should keep its original finish.
Common problems
- The rule preview cannot be shown. An input without a default value stops the preview; the rule itself is fine. For a test, fill in a value temporarily and delete it again afterwards.
What next
- Colours and materials. Rules for colour, texture and material.
- Driving fields with rules. Hiding fields with a rule.
- Defining inputs. An input's default value.
