Lists in the Library: Options, Colours, Textures, Materials — gull system handbook
The Library in gull system: the Options, Colours, Textures, Materials, Tables and Styles folders, lists shared by every configurator, the item name as the order value.
Lists in the Library: Options, Colours, Textures, Materials
The Library holds named lists that both the customer and a rule pick from. They are shared by every configurator, and an item's name is always the order's value.
- Folder: Options - An item carries: a name and an optional Photo - Use: named choices — typically an assembly's configurations; on a page, tiles with a picture
- Folder: Colours - An item carries: a name and `#RRGGBB` - Use: an appearance's Colour rule
- Folder: Textures - An item carries: a name, an image, an optional tint and Scale (%) - Use: an appearance's Texture rule
- Folder: Materials - An item carries: a name, the SOLIDWORKS material and its database, an optional colour - Use: a material rule
- Folder: Tables - An item carries: named data in rows and columns - Use: VLOOKUP, TABLEGETVALUE, field choices — see Library tables in rules
- Folder: Styles - An item carries: a set of form colours - Use: a form's look — see Form styles
Options
- Open Library → Options and create a list, say "Version".
- Add an item per choice — "Basic", "With sides", "With cover" — and give each a Photo (jpg, png, bmp, gif). Shots of the model from the same angle work best.
- In the form insert a List and under Pick a list choose this list. The field returns the chosen item's name.
- In step 3 let the configuration rule return the same name: `[Version]`. Item names must therefore be configuration names in the model — or translate them: `CHOOSEFROM([Version], "Basic", "With sides", "Sides", "With cover", "Cover")`.
What holds for every list
- A list is shared by every configurator. One list of colours serves ten pages.
- An item can be edited (another colour, another image) without renaming; orders carrying its name follow the change. Renaming an item, by contrast, means a rule no longer finds the old name.
- A List field offers All items of the list, or only some through the Items rule.
- A texture list cannot be shared with the company — the images are stored only on this computer. Colours, materials and options are shared.
