Install gull system and the SOLIDWORKS add-in — gull system handbook
Downloading the app from your account, the Windows SmartScreen warning, registering the add-in in SOLIDWORKS and how to tell it connected.
Install gull system and the SOLIDWORKS add-in
Two installs: the gull system app on the computer and its add-in in SOLIDWORKS. Without the add-in the app cannot see the model.
Installing the app
- Sign in at gullsystem.com and open Account → Downloads.
- Download the installer. Setup.exe installs the app for your Windows user without administrator rights. MSI installs it for every user into Program Files and suits an IT department.
- Accept the Windows SmartScreen warning. The installer is not yet signed with a certificate, so Windows shows "Windows protected your PC". Click More info and then Run anyway.
- Start the app. The sign-in screen appears — continue with Sign in and activate this computer.
Registering the add-in in SOLIDWORKS
The add-in is what gull system reads and drives the model with. It is registered from the app, once per computer.
- In the app open System options (the gear icon in the window header) and the CAD integration category.
- In The add-in in SOLIDWORKS click Register. Windows asks once for an administrator confirmation — registering the add-in writes to SOLIDWORKS's registry.
- Start SOLIDWORKS, or restart it if it was running.
- The status bar at the bottom of the app should read SOLIDWORKS · connected. In SOLIDWORKS the gull system tab appears in the right-hand panel.
If the add-in is registered but SOLIDWORKS has it switched off, the app says "The add-in is registered but switched off in SOLIDWORKS". Switch it on in SOLIDWORKS under Tools → Add-Ins, ticking gull system in both columns.
After an app update the add-in may be stale. The same screen then offers Register again; the Add-in version row shows which version is installed.
