Capture a colour or a material in the CAD — gull system handbook
Step by step: the mode is chosen before the click, nothing is sent until Uložit, and what cannot be captured at all.
Capture a colour or a material in the CAD
In the CAD you click a component and say what you are capturing on it. Until you click Save, nothing reaches gull system.
The procedure is the same for appearance and material and differs only in the mode you pick. All of it happens in the gull system panel inside the CAD.
The procedure
- Open the assembly and go to step 3 in the gull system panel. The configurator has to be open — captured items belong to it.
- Pick a capture mode. There are five — Parameter (dimension, feature, part), Text in a sketch, Appearance, Material and Drawing — and finish needs two of them: Appearance and Material.
- Only now click a component or a body in the assembly. The mode is chosen before the click, not after it. One click on a component can mean suppression, appearance or material; the mode is your answer to what you meant by it.
- Check that the name box filled in. An empty box means the thing you clicked has not got what the mode asked for, and nothing was captured.
- Name the item. The name you type is what you refer to in your rules. It is not a caption — it is the parameter's name.
- Click Save. That is what sends the item to gull system.
- Check that it appeared in the list of captured items. Once it is there, you can write a rule on it in step 5.
⚠ Nothing is sent until you click Save. Clicking a component only stages the item. A test where that click is skipped looks exactly like broken capture.
⚠ If the thing you clicked has not got what the mode asked for, nothing is captured — and the panel says so. Click a sub-assembly in Material mode (a sub-assembly has no material), or something whose appearance cannot be read in Appearance mode, and the name box clears. It used to capture a component suppression instead, silently: you named it "Cover colour", saved it, and the order suppressed the part rather than colouring it.
What to click
- A component, when the choice should apply to the whole part. ⚠ An appearance captured through a component belongs to the part, not to that one instance. Click Kolo-1 or Kolo-3 and you get the same target, and the rule colours every wheel.
- A body, when you want to colour only that body. In Appearance mode a body wins over the component you also hit with the same click — it is the more specific choice. A body has neither a suppression state nor a material of its own in the CAD, so it can only mean appearance.
What cannot be captured
- The appearance of a face, a feature or one specific component instance. That is not an omission: at those levels CAD appearances override one another by order, so an order's result would depend on what rebuilt first. A part and a body are unambiguous, and that is why they are the only two levels.
- Material in a part opened on its own. Material can currently only be captured by clicking a component in an assembly; in an open part there is nothing to click — there you can capture only a body's appearance. If you build your configurator over an assembly, this costs you nothing.
That question used to be asked after the click, by three What to capture radio buttons. If that is how you remember gull system, you are looking for controls that are gone.
