Add a drawing and capture properties and a BOM — gull system handbook

Adding a drawing to a configurator, capturing a custom property through a $PRP note and a BOM table in Drawing mode.

Add a drawing and capture properties and a BOM

A drawing joins the configurator when you open it in SOLIDWORKS. From a drawing you capture a property through a note, and a BOM table as an export source.

Add a drawing

  1. In SOLIDWORKS open a saved drawing of the model the configurator drives and switch to its window.
  2. The panel asks "Add this drawing to the configurator?" and offers one button with the drawing's name. Click it.
  3. The drawing appears in the step 1 tree as its own document of type Drawing. Remove it with the ribbon's Remove drawing.

An added drawing is opened and updated on an order and can be exported to PDF, DWG or DXF — see Export formats. The drawing drives nothing itself; the model is driven and the drawing follows.

Capture a property from a drawing

A SOLIDWORKS custom property (title block, drawing number, description) is captured through a note linked to it.

  1. In the panel choose the Drawing mode.
  2. Click a note on the drawing that displays a property — text with `$PRP:"…"`, `$PRPSHEET:"…"` or `$PRPMODEL:"…"`. It is captured as a Property.
  3. Name it and Save. The rule then returns any text, for example `"P-" & [Order number]`.

A plain note not linked to any property is ignored without a message in this mode. When the panel shows nothing after a click, check in SOLIDWORKS whether the note really displays a property.

Capture a BOM

In Drawing mode click a BOM table on the drawing. It is captured as a BOM — not a parameter to drive, but a source you export in step 5 as BOM (.xlsx) or BOM CSV.
